From the Horse's Mouth...

We are Geronimo and Benito, but most everyone calls us Ben and Jerry. We are 8 month old miniatures and we haven't had much handling. My half brother, Geronimo, is really scared of people so Lisa is helping him get brave so he won't be traumatized by vets and farriers. I'm not scared at all but I use my teeth a lot and like to rear and strike. Lisa is teaching me to be more cooperative. She showed me that when people ask to pick up my feet, it doesn't mean they are trying to fight with me so I can relax now.

I'm Cally. I'm a 3 year old Rocky Mountain Paint. Lisa was the first one to ride me. She didn't scare me at all. I have fun in the arena because I learned how to kick a ball, even with my back feet. And Lisa taught me to walk through water! I enjoy splashing around and grazing next to the lake. Now I can go out for rides and I am not in any hurry to get back home to my herd. I like it out on the trail!

Hi. We are Daisy and Rosie and we're Belgian crosses from a PMU farm in Canada. We used to be really scared of people and we would not let anyone put a halter or rope on us. Lisa helped us learn to trust humans. She taught us how to be brave and think our way through scary situations. Now we can ground drive, and pull things behind us; we like having our feet trimmed; and we don't mind when people climb onto our backs (especially if they scratch us in all the right places!)

My name's Dusty, I'm a Mustang mare and I'm new around here. My human recently brought me here from Arizona. Lisa is helping us develop a really close bond and she's teaching my human and I how to understand each other. Now I can load myself into a trailer and go to fun clinics with my human!

I'm Elsie, a Halflinger mare. I'm very smart and sensitive. Lisa is helping my human learn how to communicate with me and teach me how to be brave. She helped make trail rides more fun for us so now I don't whinny for my herd mates all the time when my human takes me out alone. She is also helping my human ride me more comfortably so I don't have to feel tight and scared anymore.

My name's Molly and I live with Elsie. I'm only two and a half but I think I want to be the herd leader when I grow up. Lisa is helping me understand that I can still be confident without being so pushy. She's helping me not to be so crabby when people ask me to do things. And I'm learning that pinning my ears and rearing up doesn't really get me anywhere.

Hi. I'm Ranger. Although I'm a pretty easy going guy and don't have any "issues" really, Lisa is showing my human and I how to communicate with each other so we can go out on the trails this summer. She is showing my human the importance of a one rein stop and how to help us stay safe if I get afraid. Because of what Lisa has shown us, my human is getting more confident and she and I are spending a lot more time together.

I'm Tiara. And in case you haven't noticed by my picture, I'm Arabian. I used to hate trailers! One time some people actually used a cattle prod to get me into one! I guess I'm pretty smart 'cause I outsmarted enough people that I wound up on the auction block. This really nice lady rescued me and she hired Lisa to help change my mind about trailers. In a very short time ('cause I'm that smart), I learned that trailers don't hurt horses—only certain people do. Now you can open the door and step aside and I'll climb right in as easy as you please.

My name is Tucker. I'm a four year old Paint gelding. Man, was I spooky! I wasn't much afraid of tarps and ropes and things, just people! You see, I've had some pretty rough treatment in the past. But that's all behind me now. I am seeing the world with new eyes and learning how to trust humans again. Now I don't freak out, snort and run away when people come around. Instead I go up and introduce myself. And I'm learning how to be playful again… I'm gonna be awesome someday!
